Potsdam computer center offering classes in June and July

POTSDAM – The Fred W. Cleveland Computer Center at the Potsdam Library has announced its June-July class schedule.

Most classes are free unless noted otherwise, but registration is required by calling 315-265-7230 or emailing bgordon@potsdamlibrary.org.

The following classes are slated:

• June 12, 1:30-3 p.m. -- Spanish Conversation Group. Designed for people who have studied Spanish in school or have traveled or lived abroad.

• June 13, 20 and 27 and July 11, 18 and 25, 10:30-noon -- English as a Second Language Conversation Group. Participants will use YouTube, podcasts and other sites to listen to different accents and speeds, and conversation to improve fluency and confidence. This is a no stress, comfortable environment; learners at all levels are welcome.

• June 19, 1:30-3 p.m. -- Using Family Search to Find Your Ancestors - Family Search is a free website with extensive genealogical resources. The class will provide an introduction to the site and an opportunity to practice using it. Newcomers and those with experience in doing genealogical research all welcome.

• June 21 and July 18, 1:30-3:30 p.m. -- Introduction to Microsoft Word. Participants will learn the skills needed to construct a document using Microsoft Word. Class will be taught using Windows 10/office suite 2010. Participants should be comfortable using a mouse and the keyboard.

• June 27, 10:30-noon -- Exploring NY History Online. Class will explain use of “New York Heritage,” a website which provides access to school yearbooks, maps, scrapbooks, and postcards to uncover facts about NY history.

• June 28 and July 26, 1:30-3:30 p.m. -- Excel Basics - Will explore the various formatting tools necessary to create basic spreadsheet. Perfect class for a beginner or someone who needs a refresher. Need to be comfortable using keyboard and mouse.

• July 12, 1:30-3:30 p.m. -- Introduction to Computers. Class introduces participants to the basics of PC computers. Class will be taught using Windows 10/office suite 2010. Participants should be comfortable with handling a mouse and keyboard.

• July 19, 1:30-3 p.m. -- Evaluating Health Information: What is junk science? This presentation is designed to help consumers of health information distinguish quality health information from junk science. The presentation will also cover sources of consumer health information that can be used to help understand health conditions better.
