POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Community Band is inviting adult instrumentalists to join the 60-80 member ensemble in preparation for the 2016 summer concert in Potsdam on Friday, July 15. The program, titled “Celebrating America,” will be performed as part of the Potsdam Summer Festival in Ives Park.
For the past six years, PCB, under the baton of Theresa Witmer, has entertained thousands of concert-goers at the Potsdam Summer Festival, Hosmer Concert Hall at SUNY Potsdam, Massena Springs Park and the Lake George Community Band Festival. This July’s performance will feature guest conductor Jim Madeja.
Instrumentalists are invited to come to the first rehearsal Monday, May 23 at 7 p.m. at the Potsdam High School band room. Percussionists, French horn players and a bassoonist or two are especially needed, although any adult who plays a standard band instrument at a high school level or above is welcome to play. High school students are also eligible with a recommendation from their school band director.
Rehearsals are scheduled for the following Monday nights: May 23, June 6, 13, 20 and July 11. A Thursday rehearsal will also be held prior to the Potsdam Summer Festival concert on either July 7 or 14. Members are asked to commit to attending at least three rehearsals PLUS the dress rehearsal.
