POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce is putting together the lineup for its 46th Annual Summer Festival parade Saturday, July 13. It will start at 5:30 p.m.
“We are one of the only parades I know of in the county that has its parade in the evening,” said chamber executive director Marylee Ballou.
The Potsdam Chamber seeks participants for its 46th annual summer festival parade set for July 13.
“We are one of the only parades I know of in the county that has its parade in the evening,” Marylee Ballou, the chamber’s executive director, said. “We are looking for civic/community organizations, youth groups, pageant winners, and fire departments to participate. Floats are encouraged but not required. Groups can chose to march. The parade has only one focus- to honor or spotlight those community members, organizations, volunteers, or community features that make Potsdam special.”
The parade route has been changed from last year. It will begin on Clarkson Avenue in the lot in front of the Walker Center (formerly the Walker Arena). The parade will then turn onto Maple Street, cross over Fall Island, continue up Main Street, and finish behind the Clarkson downtown campus.
“We wanted to try a new route that provides less tight turns and be able to accommodate larger floats. The route also allows for traffic to continue to flow on Route 11. This route, we feel, will be safer and require less volunteers for traffic control,” Ballou said.
The traditional Firemen’s Run to the River will still begin at 7 p.m. and continue to send one truck down Elm Street and through the blocked section of Market Street.
