POTSDAM -- Assistant Professor Lonel Woods will present a free concert honoring Black History Month Friday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Snell Music Theater, SUNY Potsdam.
Titled "The Great White Way: Black Images in American Musical Theater," this Crane recital will be the third in a series of annual Black History Month concerts. The series explores and examines the images of African-Americans in vocal music, as seen through the eyes of white and non-white composers, lyricists and performers.
The performance will include selections from musicals such as "Showboat," "Porgy & Bess," "Once on this Island," "The Wiz," "Dreamgirls," "Ragtime," "The Lion King," "Caroline, or Change," "Aida," "The Civil War" and "Smokey Joe's Café."
Woods, a tenor, will be joined by Julie Miller on piano, as well as vocal performance majors from The Crane School of Music.
