POTSDAM – The Potsdam Humane Society Animal Shelter grand opening and dedication will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 from noon to 5 p.m. at 17 Madrid Ave.
The ribbon cutting at noon will be attended by a representative from the U.S.D.A. Rural Development, the agency that provided the renovation loan, along with local dignitaries, major donors and other friends.
Throughout the day, there will be tours of the facility and a silent auction.
Animal adoption services will also be available. Bonnie Boyd, president of the society’s board, says even though the facility is bigger than it used to be, it’s already full to capacity with a waiting list of 50 families trying to drop off dogs.
USDA Rural Development will be there in celebration of their $90,000 grant and $431,940 loan for the renovation and expansion of the animal shelter. The balance of the $1,021,940 project was provided with donations from the public.
Boyd noted donations of any kind, especially monthly ones to Paypal, would help the society pay off the 42 percent of the building still not paid for.
