Polar Bear Plunge, bridal expo and reenactments highlight 'River Shiver' in Ogdensburg Feb. 18 through 26

OGDENSBURG – A Polar Bear Plunge, bridal expo and Battle of Ogdensburg reenactments highlight this year’s ‘River Shiver’ celebration in Ogdensburg.

The event runs Feb. 18 through 26 and will include:

February 18: Polar Bear 5K Walk/ Run, 9 a.m., sponsored by the area Lions Clubs, Visitor’s Center, 100 Riverside Ave.

February 18: Polar Bear Plunge and Costume Contest, Visitor’s Center/Ogdensburg Marina, 100 Riverside Ave., 1 p.m. Plungers get pledges to jump into the St. Lawrence River to benefit the Chamber of Commerce and the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad. Jumper bringing in the most money gets 10 percent of entire purse collected. Prizes for costumes, hot tub available, refreshments. Free towels to each jumper!

February 18: Indoor homemade snow painting at Kids Place of Remington Art Museum. Paint pictures featuring snow scenes. Scavenger Hunt, ages 5 and up, in main Museum.

February 19: Bridal Expo “Rediscovering your Backyard Bridal Expo,” former Brecken Ridge/Mitel building at the foot of the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge, sponsored by Assemblywoman Addie Russell, Ogdensburg Zonta, Ogdensburg Boys & Girls Club, Ogdensburg Bridge & Port Authority and 96.7 YES-FM, PAC 98.7, Q Country 102.9.

February 19: Making snowflakes at Kids Place of Remington Art Museum. Scavenger Hunt in main Museum for kids 5 and up

February 23: Cabin Fever Picnic. Enjoy an old fashioned picnic in the middle of winter. 4:30-6:30 p.m., Knights of Columbus. Call 393-3620 for advance tickets.

February 25 & 26: Battle of Ogdensburg reenactment at Fort LaPresentation on Lighthouse Point, 1:30 p.m. Actual reenactment of the winter Battle of Ogdensburg featuring cannons, muskets, period costumes

February 25: Outdoor Snow Painting at Kids Place of Remington Art Museum, using Kool -Aid, food coloring in spray bottles and stencils to create paintings on snow.

February 25: SNOLF Tournament. Annual snow-golf tournament to benefit the St. Lawrence Valley SPCA. Begins at 10 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus. Great team prizes, putting contest, lunch, door prizes. Call 394-3223 to enter your team.

February 25: Winter Ball (English Country Dance) sponsored by Forsythe Rifle at Centennial Towers, 7 p.m. Call Tim at 322-5519.

February 25: Rock and Skate at Lockwood Arena, 7-9 p.m.

February 26: 2nd Annual Zonta Snowflake Social at the Freight House Restaurant, 11a.m. to 3 p.m. Teddy Bear Tea, bring your teddy bear and enjoy tea. Dressing up is encouraged. Snowflake Social, 11a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring wine tasting, silent auction and 50/50 raffle, Express Spa services offered by BOCES and local artisans and craftsman vendors.
