RENSSELAER FALLS -- The Indian Creek Nature Center will host plant foraging: risk vs. reward on Sept. 6 from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
Gathering wild plants for food and medicine can be an interesting adventure for outdoor enthusiasts, but it is not without risks.
Before handling or using these plants, ask yourself or your guide if, for instance, you can differentiate between Daucus carota (wild carrot) and some extremely poisonous members of the same family, such as Conium maculatum (poison hemlock), Cicuta species, and others.
The program will look at a number of plants and sort out the good from the bad.
