CANTON -- Planned Parenthood of Northern New York will celebrate the opening of its new outreach center tomorrow with a “Dye Your Pride” Party from noon-3 p.m. on the lawn of the Unitarian Universalist Church at 3 1/2 Main St.

The event will also be a celebration of Pride Month.

The new center at 83 Main Street will be a 1,500 square foot facility open to the community, said Katie Ramus, Planned Parenthood vice president of community engagement.

“We are hoping the Main Street location will raise some awareness about the work that we do,” said Ramus.

Ramus said the Planned Parenthood health center on Miner Street will remain where it is and continue to provide medical services.

The outreach center will provide a location for support groups to convene, a home base for the community outreach programs offered by the organization, and for community education on a variety of related topics including reproductive health and health insurance.

“Its basically going to be a safe space,” said Ramus.

The organization plans to employ 4 people to work at the new center which is expected to open officiall by July 1.

The Die Your Pride event will also be a celebration of Pride Month. Attendees will have the opportunity to tie-dye one t-shirt for $12, or four shirts for $40, or get pre-dyed shirt for $15. White shirts will be provided.

Lawn games and other activites will be staged.

There will also be refreshments and Pride trivia just down the street at the new center.
