PIERREPONT -- A new Pierrepont veterans memorial will be dedicated Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
It is in front of the Pierrepont Museum, which is next door to the town hall at 864 State Rte. 68.
The event will include speakers, a prayer and moment of silence.
Rain date is Sunday.
The memorial features two walls showing the names, rank, branch of service and service dates for 122 veterans from Pierrepont. There is room to add more.
The project has been in the works since 2014. Tom Lattimer, Clifford Straight, Betty Vebber and Town Historian Barbara Daniels were among those who made it happen.
Clay Straight did the masonry and built a foundation that goes down four feet to avoid frost damage in the wintertime.
Daniels said she is trying to record biographies of each person on the wall. Anyone who wants to submit biographical information for a veteran on the wall can contact her at 315-379-0804 or email barbara2030@twc.com. Anyone who wants to know more about the monument can contact Daniels at that phone number or email.
