CANTON -- The annual Peter Rabbit in the Park celebration is Saturday at the Canton Pavilion again this year so Peter and his friends don’t get muddy in the still-wet downtown park.
“The park’s not ready for spring,” said Canton Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sally Hill, so the 300 or more kids expected for the event will go to the Pavilion on Outer Lincoln Street.
The sponsors, St. Lawrence University, SUNY Canton and the Canton Chamber, have added a kayak raffle to the attractions this year, Hill said.
The fun starts at noon with games and a cake walk, followed by the egg hunt at 1 p.m. in two groups, 5- and 6-year-olds and those 4 and under.
Volunteers from the colleges and around town will set up for the event beginning at 11 a.m., scattering thousands of candy-filled eggs throughout the pavilion and taping off sections for the two age groups to search Many “special” eggs will be hiding amongst the candy filled eggs, winning the lucky finders extra prizes, Hill said.
An area will also be set up for photos with Peter.
Egg prizes and funds for cake decorations were donated by local businesses.
Cleanup from Peter’s visit begins after the egg hunt and usually wraps up around 3:30 p.m. Volunteers are welcome to participate.
