AKWESASNE -- There will be a peaceful rally and prayers to support the Standing Rock activists at Generations Park, 545 State Rte. 37, on Dec. 5 at 10:30 a.m.
There will be speakers in the lacrosse box until noon, including water protectors who have visited Standing Rock, and community youth and elders.
Afterward, there will be a peaceful rally on the road between the longhouse and the recycle center.
After the rally, around 1 p.m., there will be traditional music and socializing at Generations Park.
The Standing Rock activists are trying to stop Energy Transfer Partners from building the Dakota Access Pipeline, which would pump oil through the Standing Rock Sioux reservation, which the tribe says would threaten to their drinking water. Recent news reports from Standing Rock indicate militarized police have used mace, tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannons in below-freezing weather against the demonstrators.
