Outdoor Heritage Family Rendezvous Saturday in Morristown includes races, contests, food, raffles and games

MORRISTOWN -- The Black Lake Fish and Game Association will kick off their fifth year of the Outdoor Heritage Family Rendezvous Saturday, Aug. 26, at the clubhouse property on Route 58, Morristown. Admission to the event is free.

Activities get underway at 10 a.m. with registration for the Mud & Obstacle Family Fun Races. The race begins in waves includes two distances, 1.4 miles and a 5K (3.1) route. Race registration fees are $12 for adults, $7 for youths, and free for kids younger than 7 years old with a registered adult. Post-race beverages and finish line will be provided by Pepsi Bottlers of Ogdensburg. Contact Larry for information 315-323-2107.

Bucket ticket raffles, silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, quilt raffle and gun raffles will be sold inside clubhouse and be available throughout the day. Individual and family memberships will also be for sale in the clubhouse.

A period campsite demonstration is open for the public and will include free tomahawk throwing.

At 11 a.m., Goodbye Earl’s BBQ will serve up a pork barbecue meal that includes beans, salt potatoes and corn. This is eat in or take out. Other food will be available throughout the day.

While people are waiting for their waves to start for the mud and obstacle race, they are invited to play a Redneck Challenge game, a family event challenging backwoods skills, at a cost of $2 per game.

At noon the River Valley Gun Club will do a gun dog demonstation on the trap field.

At the rifle range, shooting games will include The Impossible Shot (Shoot the String) $1 per shot, chance to win $100 and the Trotting Turkey Challenge (Moving Turkey Target). Again this year, Sporting Clays will be offered at Sporting Clays Trailer on Potato Street. Competitiors must be 12 years and older and accompanied by an adult to participate in shooting games.

A youth archery demonstration, which proved to be one of the most popular parts of the day will take place across the Gilmour Road from the Club House, next to parking lot.

All raffle drawing will occur at the end of the day.
