POTSDAM - Ring in the season with the sounds of a live, 55-piece orchestra at "Celebrate the Holidays," the Orchestra of Northern New York's ever-popular holiday concert.
Three performances will take place: Friday, Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in SUNY Potsdam's Hosmer Hall; Saturday, Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Massena High School's Auditorium; and Sunday, Dec. 16 at 3 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, Watertown.
The Massena concert benefits Massena Music Friends, a volunteer organization dedicated to supporting music in Massena schools.
Special ticket prices for this concert are $12 for adults and $8 for seniors and students in advance of the concert. Tickets at the door are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students.
On Friday, the All-Star Festival Chorus of select high school students from Massena, Canton, Potsdam and Madrid-Waddington High Schools will perform with the orchestra. Kimberly Busch, vocal music teacher at Canton Central, has coordinated the gathering of students.
On Saturday, the Massena High School Mixed Chorus takes the stage along with ONNY musicians, under the direction of Christopher Lincoln.
"We are grateful for the amazing opportunity to once again collaborate with the Orchestra of Northern New York for the ‘Celebrate the Holidays’ concert series. It is truly an exciting opportunity for these high school students to sing behind an orchestra of such high caliber, and it will be an experience our young singers will not forget!" says Lincoln. "This year's program is strong and vibrant, from movie scores to traditional greats, and we look forward to a great show with Conductor Ken Andrews and the Orchestra of Northern New York!"
Tickets for the Potsdam and Watertown concerts are $25 for adults and $20 for seniors and military personnel, $10 for college students with I.D., and free for children, 17 and younger.
Parents/guardians of student singers receive a $5 discount for their tickets only.
Tickets are available by calling the box office at 315-267-2277, visiting onny.org, or at the door.
ONNY is the only year-round professional symphony orchestra in the region. It is funded in part by the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. The Watertown concert is sponsored, in part, by the Northern New York Community Foundation.
