POTSDAM -- The Orchestra of Northern New York will present its Baroque concert, "Italian Bravura" at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 8 at Saint Mary's Church, 17 Lawrence Ave.

The concert highlights some examples of writing for strings from the birthplace of the Baroque era, Italy. The Baroque movement (1600-1750) spread from Italy to all the courts of Europe.

The program includes Vivaldi's Concerto No. 10 for Four Violins in B Minor, and features soloists John Lindsey, Ioan Harea, Jennifer Kessler and Elaine Dewar.

Andrea Zani's Cello Concerto No. 12 in F Minor will be performed as a North American premiere by ONNY co-principal cellist, Jonathan Tortolano.

Other works to be presented include Vivaldi's Concerto in G Major; Geminiani's Concerto Grosso after La Folia; Albinoni's Concerto a Cinque in B flat Major; and Giazotto's Adagio.

John Lindsey is ONNY's concertmaster, and a distinguished service professor at the Crane School of Music. He has received numerous awards, including the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. This summer he will be an artist faculty at international festivals in Luxembourg and Germany and will present master classes in Thailand and China.

Ioan Harea, also a member of the Crane School of Music faculty, has recorded six CDs and performed internationally in Venezuela, Italy, France, Spain, and his homeland of Romania..

Elaine Dewar enjoys a career of professional playing and teaching. She is the music director of the Tri-Lakes Community Orchestra in Lake Placid. She has performed with the Harrisburg Symphony, the Bronx Opera Orchestra and with a variety of artists including Joni Mitchell, Johnny Mathis, and Luciano Pavarotti.

Jennifer Kessler, a Crane faculty member, has also been employed as a music education instructor for courses in string and music education. Before coming to Crane, her professional career included teaching in Williamsburg, VA for 5 years as the first teacher/director for a new elementary strings program.

Jonathan Tortolano, a native of Vermont, has been living and playing in Canada since 1999. He is principal cello of the Erie Philharmonic and teaches at the Royal Conservatory of Music and at Mercyhurst College. In the summers, he plays the Sunflower Music Festival and teaches at Carnegie Mellon University.

Tickets for the concert are $22 adults, $20 seniors, and $10 students, 17 and younger. For more information, call 267-3251 or visit www.onny.org.
