POTSDAM -- The Orchestra of Northern New York will present “ONNY and the Big Band Era," Tuesday, July 3, at 7:30 p.m., at Hosmer Hall, SUNY Potsdam.

The concert will feature composer/arranger and trombone soloist, Bret Zvacek, of SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music.

Music Director and Conductor, Kenneth Andrews, has put together an exciting program highlighting some of the greatest American standards including “A Tribute to Henry Mancini” (Charade, The Pink Panther, Peter Gunn), “A Salute to the Big Bands” (April in Paris, I’m Gettin’ Sentimental Over You, Sing, Sing, Sing), “Duke Ellington! A Medley” (Don’t Get Around Much Anymore, Sophisticated Lady, It Don’t Mean a Thing if it Ain’t Got that Swing), and a world premiere Big Band arrangement by Bret Zvacek titled “Deep, Fascinating Things." Featuring the amazing works of Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, and George Gershwin, this world premiere will also feature Mr. Zvacek on trombone. As a special treat, Mr. Zvacek will also solo on the great Harold Arlen classic, “Over The Rainbow” which was composed for the forever-popular film, The Wizard of Oz.

In addition to celebrating the Big Band Era, patriotic favorites will include “O’Canada,” “Star Spangled Banner,” and the “1812 Overture” by Tchaikovsky as well as the “Armed Forces Salute,” the “Colonel Bogey March,” (to be conducted by Patricia Gengo, winner of the 2012 Guest Maestro Raffle) and the Olympic Fanfare “Bugler’s Dream” in honor of the London Summer Olympics.

Concert tickets are available in Potsdam at Northern Music & Video, and the CPS Box Office at SUNY Potsdam. Ticket prices are $18 for adults, $16 for seniors, $10 for students, and free for children 12 and under. For more information: 267-2277.
