CANTON - The Second Saturday Children’s Program at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association at the Silas Wright House, 3 E. Main St., Canton will begin Saturday Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. This is another in the SLCHA’s series of free monthly educational programs for kids ages 4-10.
Retired Canton schoolteacher Judy Liscum will bring Old Fashioned School Days to the SLCHA’s Second Saturday program. Dressed as an old-time school marm, Mrs. Liscum will tell kids about the history of schools in St. Lawrence County and give them a sense of what it was like to go to a one-room schoolhouse.
Participants will get to enjoy games and activities that early American schoolchildren had, and will get to make a “Geese in the Garden” game to take home. All kids are encouraged (but not required) to wear 19th century children’s clothing to the program – knickers for boys and aprons for girls.
