Old Fashioned Harvest Days begin Sept. 1 in Madrid

MADRID – The St. Lawrence Power & Equipment Museum, 1755 State Highway 345, will host the 28th Annual Old Fashioned Harvest Days Sept. 1 and 2.

The event will feature horse contests and demonstrations in the new equine pavilion, demonstrations in the new early textiles building, antique tractor building and wagon rides, tours of the print shop in the collections building, raffles, auctions, food, music and cider making.

Antique cars, trucks and tractors will be on display, there will be a flea market, kids pedal tractor pull and races, horse and tractor pulls, draft pony log skidding, chicken barbecue and tours of the maple sugar house, the 1850 one-room schoolhouse, 1850 log cabin reconstruction, Civil War encampment, shoe repair shop, 1920s gas station and other buildings onsite.

New this year will be horse log skidding and driving events, the shingle mill shop, blacksmith shop, the heritage fibers building and harvest activity behind the log cabin.

The complete schedule of events includes:

Saturday, Sept. 1

• 9:30 a.m. Blacksmith shop dedication;

• 10-11 a.m. Corn binding, chopping and threshing oats;

• 10-10:30 a.m. Haflinger (draft pony) log skidding;

• 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Antique auto and truck exhibit;

• 10:30 a.m. Draft horse log skidding;

• 11 a.m.-noon Sawmill and shingle mill operating;

• 12:30 p.m. Tractor and horse parade;

• 1 p.m. Draft horse driving competition;

• 1-2 p.m. Corn binding, chopping, threshing oats;

• 1-2:30 p.m. Kids pedal tractor races;

• 2-3 p.m. Sawmill and shingle mill operating;

• 4:30-6 p.m. Dinner: ham, scalloped potatoes and more;

• 6:30 p.m. 50/50 and raffle winners announced;

• 6:30-8:30 p.m. Music by Steelin Country.

Sunday, Sept. 2

• 7:30-8 p.m. Church in the tractor building;

• 8 p.m. Presidents comments, pavilion building;

• 10-11 a.m. Sawmill and shingle mill operating;

• 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Antique auto and truck exhibit;

• 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Antique tractor pulls;

• 11 a.m.-noon Corn binding, chopping or oat threshing;

• Noon Chicken barbecue;

• 12:30 p.m. Horse and tractor parade;

• 1-2 p.m. Sawmill and shingle mill operating;

• 1-2 p.m. Corn binding, chopping or oat threshing;

• 1-2:30 p.m. Kids pedal tractor pull; and

• 2 p.m. Raffle, silent auction, 50/50 winners announced.

Museum t-shirts and caps will be available. Kid’s craft sessions will be staged as well.

There will be free wagon and Century Flyer rides and a golf cart shuttle service for tired feet.

Admission to the event is $5 for 12 years old and older, and $3 after 3 p.m. on Saturday. Children younger than 12 are admitted free.

Non-food vendors are welcome for $25 per space. Exhibitor space is free. Dry camping is allowed at $10 per day but spaces are limited.
