OGDENSBURG -- The Frederic Remington Art Museum’s next Art Highlights and Tea will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 10.
Museum Director Laura Foster will speak in the Albert P. Newell Gallery about the museums recent additions, two original works by Frederic Remington.
One is “Untitled,” an oil painting of a mounted Indian painted ca. 1889. The full color painting is signed, and inscribed Fort Sill, I.T. [Indian Territory.] It is new to the Newell Gallery, where it enjoys a place of honor next to “Charge of the Rough Riders.” The owners, Nathalie G. Bradley and the MacElwee Family, have chosen to make the Frederic Remington Art Museum the host of its public debut.
Also discussed will be “White Wings,” a wash drawing of a sailboat, ca. 1893, which had been on loan to the museum since 1987. Through gifts from Allan P. Newell and the Kingsley family of Hammond, the museum bought the work from the lender and added it to the permanent collection.
Foster will tell the stories of these very different acquisitions, talk about how they each fit into the museum's Remington holdings and relate to his broader body of work.
The talk is free and open to the public, presented in the museum’s Albert P. Newell Gallery.
At 3 p.m., tea will be served, courtesy of Nancy Skiff and friends.
