CANTON -- Ever wonder how Ogdensburg grew from being a small Jesuit outpost in 1749 to being the only American city located on the St. Lawrence River?

Find out all about Ogdensburg’s history when author David Martin speaks about his latest book, “Ogdensburg Through Time,” at the next Patricia Harrington Carson Brown Bag Lunch program at noon on Thursday, Jan. 22 at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association at the Silas Wright House, 3 East Main St.

The event is free. Bring a lunch and get a beverage and dessert provided by the SLCHA. A book signing will follow.

Martin, an Ogdensburg native, is an avid local historian and longtime collector and printer of photographs from glass-plate negatives. He devotes much of his time to the history of St. Lawrence County and especially to documenting the history of the Horwood Stained Glass Studio in Northern New York and Ontario.

Martin is also the author of several books in Arcadia’s Images of America Series, including “Ogdensburg” and “Around Oswegatchie,” and he is the co-author of “Massena.”
