Ogdensburg Seaway Festival kicks off Friday, July 20; parade, fireworks, concerts among highlights

OGDENSBURG – The 2018 Seaway Festival will kick off Friday, July 20, featuring more than a full week of events including a fishing derby, canoe races, wine and craft shows, car show, barbecue, tricycle racing, classic car cruise-ins, Do Wop music, drag show, karoke contest, country music sing-offs, great food and fireworks.

This year the 58th annual festival, called the “biggest family reunion in St. Lawrence County,” will also have several events to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Ogdensburg.

Events start on Friday, July 20 this year with the Fabulous Female Impersonator Show at the Freighthouse restaurant at 7:30 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for the festival and admission is $10 per person. VIP tables cost $20. For reservations and tickets, call 3315-393-4770.

Saturday, July 21

The Rip Friot/Remington Canoe Race starts the day Saturday, July 21 at 9 a.m. at the Heuvelton Boat Launch. Info: 315-323-9888.

A Kid’s Fishing Derby will be held Saturday from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Oswegatchie Dam Area, sponsored by Stewart’s Shops. Info: 315-393-4629.

A 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held at Hosmer’s Marina starting at 10 a.m.

The Wine, Art and Craft Show and Farmer’s Market will be held at Lockwood Arena from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. This year's show is also larger than ever, say organizers. Wine vendors have been added and festival favorite food vendors from the Farmer's Market are included. Info: 315-393-9274.

Firefighter’s Kid’s Games event, sponsored by the Ogdensburg Fire Fighters Local 1799 will be held at Morrisette Park from 1-4 p.m. A variety of traditional fair games and races and a greased pole climb will be staged.

Starting at 6 p.m. a movie night featuring “Jumanji – Back to the Jungle” will be held at the Mosaic Facility on Ford Street.

Sunday, July 22

A youth fun run gets things moving Sunday, July 22 at 8:30 a.m. the Dobisky Visitors Center. The event is sponsored by SUNY Canton. Info: 315-955-9342. A 4-Mile Walk/Run will step off at 9 a.m. at the center.

The Wine, Arts and Craft Show will be held again from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The Oswegatchie Golf Challenge will be at Trafalgar Park from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. The challenge is sponored by the Ogdensburg Lions Club.

From 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Fred’s Wild West BBQ will be held at the Frederic Remington Art Museum, featuring a petting zoo, music and barbecue.

The annual Battle of the Bands at the OFA football field will start at 7 p.m. and feature competing marching bands from regioanl schools. Admission is $3. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the Dome. The event is sponsored by Pepsi Cola Ogdensburg Bottlers. Info: 315-393-3518.

Monday, July 23

The Ogdensburg Dance Center will perform on the Greenbelt Stage at 6 p.m. Monday, July 23. The event is sponsored by Howland Pump.

Tuesday, July 24

Preliminary competitions for the Karaoke Contest will be held Tuesday, July 24, starting at 6:30 p.m. on the Greenbelt Stage. The event is organized by 96.7 YESfm and Q102.9. Info: 315-393-4770.

Wednesday, July 25

Tricycle Races will be staged at the Greenbelt tennis courts on Wednesday, July 25, at 4 p.m., sponsored by the Ogdensburg Lions Club.

The Seaway Cruiser’s Cruise-In will be held at Greenbelt Park from 6-9 p.m. Info: 315-347-3414.

The Fabulous SHOES Do Wop Revue, featuring 50s and 60s music, will be held at the Library Park Gazebo from 6:30-9 p.m. The event is sponsored by United Helpers and Seaway Cruisers.

Thursday, July 26

Remington Museum Day will be held Thursday, July 26, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. with a full range of activities. Visit fredericremington.org for more information.

The Ogdensburg Public Library will host “The Great Toilet Paper Toss” starting at 6:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by River Rat Designs. Info: 315-393-4770.

The Oswegatchie River Boys will perform at 7 p.m.

Double Axel will perform at Throw Back Thursday at the Ogdensburg Elks Club from 8 p.m.-midnight.

Friday, July 27

Remington Museum Day continues Friday, July 27, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

The Wolf 95.3 station will sponsor a country music sing off from 5-6 p.m. and from 6-7 p.m. on the Main Stage the karaoke finals will be held, sponsored by Q Country & Yes FM.

Double Axel will perform from 7-9:45 p.m.

The annual Fireworks Spectacular by Majestic Fireworks will start at 10 p.m.

Saturday, July 28

The 58th annual Seaway Festival Parade will start on Ford Street at 11 a.m. Info: 315-393-3518. Awards will follow at the Library Park gazebo. Seaway Festival float applications are now being taken. You do not have to have your float judged to be a participant in the parade. Please contact Melanie Cole 315-393-2219 for information.

Travis Mourick will perform at the gazebo at 6 p.m.

Sunday, July 29

The duck race gets things moving Saturday, July 28, starting at 11 a.m. at the city pool.

Also starting at 11 a.m. the Sunday in the Park event, featuring a vendor show, food and music will be held at the Dobisky Visitors Center. Margarita Mike will perform from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

The Seaway Cruisers will cap off the festival from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. with their annual antique and classic car show at the OBPA Park. Info: 315-393-0916, 315-347-3414.

Due to severe water damage in the Greenbelt, some activities may not be available for safety reasons, and some events held there traditionally have been moved to a different location, said organizers.
