OGDENSBURG -- The Ogdensburg Parks and Recreation Department hosts its seventh annual Sandbar Classic Fishing Derby July 16.
Adult anglers can register for $20 and can fish for bass, walleye, northern pike and perch on the St. Lawrence River only. Registration is underway from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. during normal business hours at the Dobisky Visitor’s Center, 100 Riverside Ave., or at Hosmer’s Marina from 6 to 7 a.m. when fishing begins.
The first 150 participants who sign-up will receive a free T-shirt or boonie hat.
The tournament will end at 3 p.m. when the winners will be announced and the trophies and prizes will be awarded.
Each angler can submit only one fish from each of the categories. Each fish entered will be weighed and its length recorded. Winners will be determined by weight. If there is a tie, the length will determine the winner. All weighing of fish will take place at Hosmer’s Marina.
For a sixth year, there will be a youth division for bass, northern pike, walleye and perch. Registration for youth, 16 and under, is $10. Youth can also register for the adult division if they choose.
Prizes and awards will be provided by the family of the late Al O’Marah. They will also sponsor the annual Al O’Marah Lunker Award for the angler catching the heaviest bass.
Fishing is.
The event is sponsored by Hosmer’s Marina, The Dirty Gringo, Larry’s Taxidermy, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center and the family of the late Al O’Marah.
