OGDENSBURG – A local music festival organizer here is working with local organizations to stage a series of concerts throughout the summer instead of a festival this year.
MOOD Fest (Music on the Oswegatchie Delta) has teamed up with Ogdensburg City Recreation, Frederic Remington Art Museum and the Ogdensburg Public Library to form MOOD Series 2017.
The first two concerts of the series were held in June at the Frederick Remington Art Museum and the Ogdensburg Library Park.
"We had a modest turnout but as the word gets out we hope to increase our attendance," said Pat Duffy, in a press release. Duffy is the organizer of the series and of MOOD Fest which was held the last two years in Ogdensburg,
The next show is slated for July 6, from 6-8 p.m., at the Ogdensburg Library Park, with local jam band favorites Atom Ghost.
The series is an effort to support music, literacy and art in Ogdensburg's cultural district, said the press release.
With budget drawbacks the was an opportunity to both serve the community and help financially support the Ogdensburg Public Library and Frederic Remington Art Museum, Duffy said.
"In a time of cutbacks, it's up to the citizens to step up and make something happen," said Duffy. "I am grateful for all the acts who have signed up for this series. It took only a day to fill the event. We have some great talent coming from as far away as South Carolina with Jeff Stein, Tara Young of Batavia and North Country greats Tas Cru and Mary Ann Casale."
All the shows are free to the public and start at 6 p.m. unless otherwise noted below. The concerts will be staged either at the Ogdenburg Library Park, Frederick Remington Art Museum, or the MOOD Fest Stage.
There will be 50/50 drawings held at each performance to benefit the library and museum. Attendees are encouraged to drop tips in the artists’ guitar cases.
The schedule of remaining performances is as follows:
• July 6 – Atom Ghost, at library park.
• July 19 – Ryan McNally and the Bandroom Band, at library park.
• Aug. 10 – Jeff Stein, solo acoustic guitar, from Columbia, S.C., formerly of Waddington; at the art museum.
