OGDENSBURG -- A Dick Bailey print of “First Snow,” a tour of the historic Notre Dame Church and a talk by Ogdensburg Historian Julie Madlin will highlight the St. Lawrence County Historical Association’s 68th annual meeting.
People do not need to be association members to attend.
The event is slated for Nov. 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Notre Dame Church, 125 Ford St.
It will begin with a brief business meeting, followed at noon by a soup and sandwich lunch.
Lunch is $10 per person.
After lunch, Madlin will give a presentation on Ogdensburg history. Attendees will also hear music played on Notre Dame Church’s historic 1890 Hamill tracker organ and view stained glass windows made by Harry Horwood.
Notre Dame Church is one of the oldest parishes in the Diocese of Ogdensburg, tracing its roots to Abbe Picquet, who said the first Solemn Mass there in 1749. At the request of the many French Canadian Catholic families in early Ogdensburg, Notre Dame was officially organized in 1859. The original part of the church was built in 1859, with a tower, sacristies, and a rectory added over the years. The church and rectory were finally completed in the 1890s.
Also, a Dick Bailey print titled “First Snow” is being raffled to benefit the Historical Association, with the drawing being held at the meeting. “First Snow” is framed with a finished size of approximately 23 inches by 27 inches.
Tickets are available at the SLCHA for $1 each or 6 tickets for $5, and will be available at the meeting. The winner’s name will be drawn at the meeting does do not need to be present to win.
Registration is required for lunch, but people do not need to order the meal to attend the meeting.
