OGDENSBURG – The Ogdensburg Garden Club will present its Tri-Annual Flower Show Aug. 19 and 20 at the Dobisky Community Center, 100 Riverside Ave.

Hours will be 3 – 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday. Also on Saturday, Youth Garden Club members will present their exhibits at the Frederic Remington Museum, 303 Washington St. from noon to 2 p.m. There is no admission fee.

Theme this year is “The St. Lawrence River – Our Home.”

Under the direction of club Pres. Lin Griffin, the club has been meeting for many months putting their designs together. Co-chairs of the event are Michelle (Mickey) Syne and Darlene Liscum. Co-chairs of the Youth Garden Club are Ann Groome and Loni Recker.

Garden club members volunteer their time each week to plant, water and nurture a number of gardens throughout the city.

One of the gardens is in front of the Ogdensburg Public Library with two mirror gardens located behind the library. Other gardens maintained by the club include the Rita Agarwal Memorial Garden next to the Dobisky Community Center, the triangle garden at the entrance to the city next to United Helpers Nursing Home and the youth garden next to the Remington museum.

Griffin noted “how very proud we all are of the gardens we plant and care for in several public gardens scattered amongst the community.”

The club also sponsors the hanging baskets and planters on Ford and State streets. The baskets are arranged and maintained by Ron Spears.

And each year, the club presents their Maple Leaf Awards recognizing the many parks, green spaces and flower gardens maintained by residents, businesses and organizations. The wooden maple leaf plaques are made by Willard Ashley.

Anyone interested in becoming a member or making a donation to fund the club’s efforts may contact Griffin at 393-5202 or at the Ogdensburg Garden Club, PO Box 1414, Ogdensburg, NY 13669.

The club is always looking for new members who love to garden and want to learn more about gardening. It was founded in 1925.
