OGDENSBURG -- The Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce will honor the 2017 Citizens of the Year, and Business Improvement Award and Outstanding Community Service Award winners at its annual dinner Friday, Nov. 3, at the Gran-View Restaurant.

The chamber has named Richard and Bonnie Wright as the 2017 Citizens of the Year.

The Wrights have been active in the City of Ogdensburg and surrounding communities for many years, said the chamber in a press release.

The couple has been active with the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club, Remington Art Museum, the Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce and International Seaway Festival; and have been hosts with the Fresh Air Program and International Student Program.

The Wrights have worked with dozens of organizations to support their community and make Ogdensburg a better place to live and raise a family, said the chamber.

The 2017 Business Improvement Award will be awarded to Mort Backus and Sons for their 60-year commitment to residents in St. Lawrence County by providing quality customer service and the recent expansion of their dealership. The expansion enhanced their showroom and service department, by adding drive-in lanes for customer convenience as well as handicapped accessible bathrooms.

The business supports local charitable organizations and believes in being active community members in the North Country, said the chamber.

The 2017 Outstanding Community Service Award will be awarded to the Kiwanis – Builders Club (7th & 8th graders) and Key Clubs (9th – 12th grades), announced the chamber.

These organizations are completely volunteer, non-for-profit groups who work on projects like raising funds for the Revolutionary War monument installed this past May.

The Key Club cleans up and re-stains Kid’s Kingdom Park every spring.

Both clubs raised money and collected donations for the hurricane victims this year.

They both volunteer to help out other organizations by assisting during events or with fundraising.

Cocktails at the Gran-View start at 5:30 p.m., with dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m.

Annual dinner tickets are on sale now for $40 pre-sale and $45 at the door.

Dinner choices are prime rib, chicken cordon bleu or broiled seafood platter. Dinner includes Gran-View salad, rolls, relishes and dessert.

In addition to the awards ceremony, the evening will include a silent and live auction.
