NYSARC Autism Awareness Walk in Canton Saturday

CANTON -- St. Lawrence NYSARC is holding its 10th Autism Awareness Walk at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the village park on Main Street

Registration begins at 9 a.m. The event will be hosted by WWNY-TV’s Jeff Cole and Rose and Kiernan is the presenting sponsor.

This year’s theme is “Disney” and there will be a costume contest open to everyone with a variety of prizes to win.

The walk is a non-competitive walk to promote education and support services offered by St. Lawrence NYSARC for people on the Autism Spectrum.

There is no registration fee, but walkers who raise $25 get a “thank you” gift and donors who give $50 or more will receive an Autism Awareness Walk t-shirt, while supplies last.

The 2017 t-shirt features art by Rhys Schmidt of Massena and Greta Bellardini of Norwood. View the t-shirt design, download the registration, and get full contest details at www.slnysarc.org/autism-walk.

The first 350 registered participants will get a complimentary gift bag.

This year’s event will also include a free bounce house provided by Friot’s Bounce House Rentals, refreshments, a flag contest, entertainment, and activities for children. Local radio personality Dave Merz of “Merz in the Morning” will broadcast live from the park.

Additional sponsors for St. Lawrence NYSARC’s Autism Awareness Walk include WWNY-TV, Stephen’s Media Group, Community Bank, Friot’s Bounce House Rentals, Pepsi-Cola Ogdensburg Bottlers, Olympia Sports, Stewarts Shops, Kinney Drugs, The First Presbyterian Church on the Park in Canton, Verizon, St. Lawrence University, SUNY Canton, SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson University.

St. Lawrence NYSARC’s Children and Youth Program provides individualized services for people with developmental disabilities from three to 22 years old with a specialization in autism spectrum disorders.
