NYPA's free Friday matinees continuing through April

MASSENA—The New York Power Authority continues its free “Friday Matinees” with showings of contemporary movies at Hawkins Point Visitors Center.

The 1:30 p.m. movies include free popcorn.

The schedule:

• April 20: “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” (2011). A nine-year-old amateur inventor, Francophile, and pacifist searches New York City for the lock that matches a mysterious key left behind by his father, who died in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11.

• April 27: “The Iron Lady (2011). An elderly Margaret Thatcher talks to the imagined presence of her recently deceased husband as she struggles to come to terms with his death while recalling her life from girlhood to British prime minister.

At this time of year, the Hawkins Point Visitors Center is open from 9 a.m.

to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Visitors can also sample the array of hands-on exhibits at the Hawkins Point facility, which presents information on such subjects as water power and the St. Lawrence-FDR power project. Visitors can see panoramic views of the power dam.
