CANTON – Festive floral arrangements, refreshments and holiday music will fill the Silas Wright House, 3 E. Main St., for the St. Lawrence County Historical Association’s holiday events.

The annual Holiday Open House will be held Friday, Dec. 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. and the holiday tea will be Sunday, Dec. 4 from 1-3 p.m. Both are free and open to the public.

The open house will include live seasonal music beginning at 4 p.m. with the Preservation Band, a group from Hugh C. Williams High School in Canton, led by Tim Savage and Warren Wisner. At 5 p.m., the Northwinds Ensemble will play, followed by Diane Foote at 6 p.m., and the Noteworthy Handbell Choir at 7 p.m.

In honor of the nearly 7,000 men from St. Lawrence County who served in the Civil War, the SLCHA is decorating a Civil War memory tree. For $5, supporters can make sure a memory tag for their ancestor or Civil War hero hangs on the tree.

The names of all the veterans on the tree will be read and remembered during the open house. Application forms for the memory tree are available at the SLCHA, or by email at info@slcha.org

The holiday tea is an opportunity to view the Victorian holiday atmosphere in the Silas Wright House with refreshments, holiday music and conversation.

The Canton Garden Club will again decorate the Silas Wright House as they have for 36 years; it will remain decorated for the holidays through Dec. 17.
