Noteworthy Handbell Choir, Madrid Community Chorus performing Wednesday for Dam Music Series

MADRID -- The Noteworthy Handbell Choir from Potsdam, and the Madrid Community Chorus are the next scheduled performers at the Madrid Dam Music Series Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 6 p.m. inside the community building.

The Noteworthy Handbell Choir has played together for more than 20 years with 30 plus members in that time-frame.

The group plays a mixture of sacred and secular music. Currently eight members make up the group.

The Dam concert will feature music through the decades. There will be recognizable tunes from church like “Kum Ba Yah,” but also favorites from Simon & Garfunkle, Elvis, and many more.

Michael Walters is the director of the choir.

The Madrid Community Chorus will stage its first ever performance after intermission. Singers in the group from 16 to 70 years old will present a collection of Broadway music with snippe

ts from Rent, Les Miserables and Guys and Dolls.

Soloists include Jeni Reed, Tyler Allen, Natalie Lucas, Ben Hull, Colin McNamara, Josh Reed and Carina Gilchrist,.

The chorus is conducted by Carol Rouke and accompanied by Bill Felix, with assistance from Kim Wise, music secretary and librarian.

A Madrid Moment celebrating 100 years of the Madrid Hepburn Library, with staff and volunteers to include Nina's belly dance class members will take place during intermission. Audience members will be invited to join in.

Organizers will hold another auction of a few donations. Proceeds will be used for building materials for the new bandstand.

Attendees are asked to use the community building’s chairs to allow more people in the audience.

Announcements begin at 5:45, with the first performance at 6.
