NORWOOD -- Grateful Oars Rowing Club is hosting an open house and demonstration for it's "Learn To Row" program from 9 a.m. to noon on June 7 at Norwood Beach, Lakeshore Drive. Attendees can tour the boathouse, meet club members, learn about rowing in a crew boat at dockside, watch a crew demonstrate rowing and experience some time in a crew boat.
The Grateful Oars club’s current members range in age from 20s to the 70s. The minimum age to join is 14.
Members row mainly for recreation and fitness, but some members do compete.
Introductory sessions, essentially to determine whether you are interested, will be held on June 14 and June 21 and cost $25. Continuing with learning to row through the summer involves joining the club for an additional $75. Participants will row twice a week in July and once weekly in August.
Club crews row weekly in two-, four-, and eight-person boats. The club has two single recreational shells for qualified members.
