NORWOOD -- The Norwood Village Green Concert series will present Houston based Soul Street Dance Company Monday, June 10 and The Campbell Brothers Thursday, June 13.
The Soul Street show will be performed at 1 p.m. for Norwood-Norfolk Central School students and at 7 p.m. for a general audience.
Soul Street incorporates different styles of street dance into their performances. Soul Street’s performances consist of high-energy movement and an electric music mix ranging from hip-hop to classical.
Soul Street will perform “Breakin’ Backwards,” featuring performances from past decades. The four street dancers will perform a contemporary mix of choreography to the most popular music of past decades. Music selections will include Count Basie, Elvis Presley, The Temptations, Aerosmith, Michael Jackson and more.
The Campbell Brothers will perform Thursday at 7 p.m. at the village bandshell, with a pre-concert workshop at 5:45 p.m. The group will share Sacred Steel Gospel music from the Africa-American Pentecostal Church.
“Sacred Steel” music is gospel combined with electric steel guitars, drums, bass and vocals. The genre arose from the Pentecostal churchs in the 1930’s.
Admission will be free but a “pass the bucket” will be held.
