NORWOOD -- The Norwood Village Green Concert Series presents the Waydown Wailers Thursday, July 23 and Jammin Divas’ on Sunday, July 26. Both concerts begin at 7 p.m.’

Waydown Wailers style is at the edge of the swamp rock, blues, and jam genres with Americana. It is a sound better known as jam rock.

Waydown Wailers first hit the music scene in 2012. In the wake of a successful reception of their debut album, “State of the Union” on the Woodstock Records label, the band have been busy playing shows in the northeast region, from small clubs to music festivals.

They have opened for New Riders of the Purple Sage (originally formed in the 1960s by several members of The Grateful Dead), Spin Doctors and Blue Coupe (including founding members of Alice Cooper and Blue Öyster Cult).

At the first show with NRPS, they quartet met Louie Hurwitz, who produced The Band on three albums and also worked with Bob Dylan and Rick Danko, among other well-known musicians. It was this first meeting that set the groundwork for Hurwitz to produce the first Waydown Wailers album.

Hurwitz and the Crowmatix contributed keyboards, accordion and vocals to the recording.

Woodstock Records has selected three songs from “State of the Union” album that are included with other Woodstock Recording artists on a compilation album named “Story of Tomorrow,” released Apr. 15, 2014.

Jammin’ Divas Liz Simmons, Melissa McMillan, Kath Buckell, Hadar Noiberg, blend renditions of traditional and contemporary original folk music, including three-part harmonies bedded against flute and double bass.
