NORWOOD -- The Norwood Village Green Concert Series concludes its 41st annual season with a performance by Northbound with special guest King Kong on Sunday Aug. 3 at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, The Norwood Brass Firemen will perform July 31 at 7 p.m. There has been a community band in the Village of Norwood consistently since its incorporation in 1872. After a hiatus during World War II, the band was reformed in 1946 when the community band became The Norwood Fire Department Band. The band has played countless local events in the North Country to presidential inaugurations and even the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. They play many patriotic pieces and jazz favorites.

Northbound performs an eclectic mix of folk, acoustic, and classic rock. Their influences draw from the singer-songwriters of the 50′s through today; names like James Taylor, Paul Simon, John Fogerty, The Beatles. They have been performing in the North Country together for years and brings a blend of music that spans a wide variety of musical tastes.

Michael Welch has been a prominent figure in the local music scene for more than three decades. Michael’s wealth of experience provides him with a chameleon-like ability to fine tune his performance according to the venue and audience.

Don Cannamela has been studying music since age 7 when he began piano. He is the Director of Instrumental Music at Parishville-Hopkinton Central School and has taught in St. Lawrence County for more than a decade. He plays piano, trombone, and bass and has performed with numerous jazz, blues, classical, and rock groups in the area.

Larry Baycura began playing the drums at the age of 11. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Education as well as his Master of Music in Performance at SUNY Potsdam. He is employed by the Canton Central School District.

King Kong are Andy Van Duyne and his son, Geoff Hayton. Andy and Geoff have been playing in bands together for about 20 years. They are both in "The Debt", an 8 piece horn band who has been featured in the Norwood Village Green Bandshell, and "The Concessionaires", a 4 piece rock band.

As King Kong, they play a mix of whatever strikes their fancy, principally on 2 acoustic guitars, although they have incorporated electric guitars and keyboards from time to time. They enjoy playing a range of music from real classic country to 60's rock to folk. Both Andy and Geoff share singing duties and take turns playing 'lead' guitar, their two styles complimenting each other.

Admission is free but there is a “pass the bucket.”
