NORWOOD – The Norwood Village Green Concert Series announced a change in performers for Thursday, July 2. David Wells and The Gathering will replace Andy Van Duyne and B.O.O.M.

Due to unforeseen circumstances Andy Van Duyne and B.O.O.M are not able to. Norwood resident Dave Wells and The Gathering will be performing.

The series will also present The All Star Big Band under the direction of Wally Siebel with guest artist Steve Wilson on Sunday, July 5. Both concerts begin a 7 p.m.

David Wells started his music career in Northern New York playing in local bands while in high school in the Heuvelton area. David started dabbling in songwriting back in those days but would not really become a more prolific writer until after graduating from the Crane School of Music in 1997In 2004, David relocated back to the North Country to find musical work playing drums and percussion for area organizations such as Community Performance Series and Northern Symphonic Winds.

In 2014, David hooked up with longtime friend Rik Woodward to begin studio work at Rik’s Studio 37 in Ogdensburg, and shortly after they began performing as a duo act across Northern New York. While working on David’s third solo record, which they are currently wrapping up, they enlisted Amber Nezezon and Greg Jadlos to add their talents to the project. It was from there that the idea of working together as a group was born out of mutual respect and friendship. They then made the decision to add Michael Jadlos on drums and with this five-piece configuration, made their very successful debut as a group just within this past month.

Rik Woodward has been playing guitar since he was 15 years old and has spent years playing in the North Country music scene in countless bands. Rik has also worked for years in his in-home recording studio and fully nourished a love for recording and production. He has done countless recording projects for friends and bands in the area over the years and through that work has become a very knowledgeable recording engineer and producer. Amber Nezezon studied classical violin initially under Mrs. Victoria Day in Gouverneur, NY. Skills learned during the early years were essential to nurturing the love of music within. Later, more formal training under Dr. John Lindsey at the Crane School of Music took over. Classically, Amber has played with the Crane Youth Music program, Crane Symphony Orchestra while attending Crane, and as part of the New York State Summer School of the Arts played in front of the capital buildings in Albany, on stage at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center and throughout the SPAC park as part of a quartet. Amber also runs her own string studio located in Massena, NY.

Michael Jadlos is currently a student at SUNY Potsdam. He has been playing professionally since the age of 15. An exciting and creative drummer, he brings a unique combination of solid musicianship, big grooves, and joy to his playing. He currently plays with Andy Van Duyne, Divided Roads, Wells and The Gathering, Rod Richmond and Whitetail, and whatever other interesting opportunities come his way. He recently recorded a single with Rod Richmond which placed for several weeks on the Nashville Music Row charts, and has benefited greatly from the musical, professional, and personal guidance of Nashville studio and touring drummers David Northrup and Austin Curcuruto.

Greg Jadlos has been a longtime fixture on the Northern New York music scene. Greg brings with him several centuries of playing experience. He is a graduate of the Crane School of Music, taught string instruments and orchestra for several years, and later spent over 20 years as a school administrator. Over the years, he has played with bands as diverse as The Desperados, Topaz, Strut, The Stardusters, The North Country Preservation Jazz Band, The Concessionaires, The Debt, Rod Richmond and Whitetail, Divided Roads, Wells and The Gathering, White Knuckle, and The Redeemed, among others. Several of these groups played in the Village Green series over the years. He is also a veteran pit orchestra musician, having played literally hundreds of local high school musical performances in addition to dozens more with Music Theatre North and the Community Performance Series.

Steve Wilson has attained ubiquitous status in the studio and on the stage with the greatest names in jazz, as well as critical acclaim as a bandleader in his own right. A musician’s musician, Wilson has brought his distinctive sound to more than 100 recordings led by such celebrated and wide-ranging artists as Chick Corea, George Duke, Michael Brecker, Dave Holland, Dianne Reeves, Bill Bruford, Gerald Wilson, Maria Schneider, Joe Henderson, Charlie Byrd, Billy Childs, Karrin Allyson, Don Byron, Bill Stewart, James Williams, and Mulgrew Miller among many others. Wilson has seven recordings under his own name, leading and collaborating with such stellar musicians as Lewis Nash, Carl Allen, Steve Nelson, Cyrus Chestnut, Greg Hutchinson, Dennis Irwin, James Genus, Larry Grenadier, Ray Drummond, Ben Riley, and Nicholas Payton.

Since the 1990’s Wilson has been regularly cited in the Downbeat Magazine Critics and Readers Polls in the soprano and alto saxophone categories. The Jazz Journalists Association nominated him for Best Alto Sax Player in 2008, and for Best Soprano Sax Player in 2010. His work in film has included being artistic consultant to Harvey Keitel for “Lulu On The Bridge” as well as being featured on the soundtrack.

Wilson’s current projects reflect his multifaceted artistry, versatility, and associations with some of the most highly regarded artists on the scene. His quartet Wilsonian’s Grain, which consists of Orrin Evans, Ugonna Okegwo, and Bill Stewart or Clarence Penn, has been featured on NPR live from the Kennedy Center and the Village Vanguard in New York City, and headlined at the prestigious Detroit Jazz Festival in 2011. Wilson is one-half of two dynamic duos, “Musical Dialogue” with renowned drummer Lewis Nash, and in another with pianist Bruce Barth as documented on their recent recording “Home” on the We Always Swing label. He co-leads an elegant trio with pianist Renee Rosnes and bassist Peter Washington, and with composer/arranger David O’Rourke has a repertoire as soloist with strings. Wilson is touring member of the Grammy-winning Maria Schneider Orchestra, the Billy Childs Quartet, Christian McBride & Inside Straight as well as McBride’s Grammy-winning Big Band, and the Buster Williams Quartet.

The above is just a small sample of Steve Wilson’s life in jazz. He has another career in jazz education. Peruse the series website as listed below for links to an extensive catalogue of Wilson’s credits.
