NORWOOD -- Norwood Public Library will host a free LibraryPalooza Saturday, June 29 from noon to 4 p.m. to kick off the summer reading program.
Highlights will include live music, food and storytelling.
Live music by the family friendly “Animal Crackers,” the Latin group “Caramelo Trio” and singer-storyteller “Farmer Tom” will be offered. Todd Moe will serve as emcee.
Hot dogs, hamburgers and ice cream will be available from The Grub Tub food truck.
Art stations will feature projects related to the reading programs theme, “Dig Into Reading.” Storytellers will read stories throughout the event.
A raffle for prizes, including a Kindle, canvas library bags with books and gift certificates to the Lobster House and Northwoods Furniture, will be offered. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the library anytime before or during the event.
This is one of several efforts that new library director Cheryl Mirer is making “to make this more of a community hub. It will be a fun day of live music and other activities for everybody.”
She has also begun an art club for kids aged 10 to 17, a storytime Friday mornings for younger kids, and she plans a creative writing workshop for teens in July.
Mirer has distributed a questionnaire to the community seeking ideas for more programs and activities.
