NORWOOD -- The American Red Cross and Norwood-Norfolk Elementary School will host a blood drive in memory of Joanne Bigwarfe Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school.

Joanne Bigwarfe was the elementary principal at Norwood-Norfolk for four years. During her tenure as principal Bigwarfe was a K-Kids advisor and helped raise money for a variety of organizations including the Red Cross.

She was also the loving wife and mother of two children. Her entire family shared a love of sports.

Bigwarfe was the president of the Potsdam Booster Club and was trying to help Norwood-Norfolk establish a booster club as well.

Following surgery to remove a cancerous tumor, Bigwarfe required several blood transfusions.

“We wish we could have done more to help our friend, but in lieu of that we want to do what she would do were she still here by donating blood to help others,” said Becky Kingsley, elementary school principal at Norwood-Norfolk Central School.

All who donors during the month of May will be eligible to enter to win a $50 Lowe’s gift card.

To schedule an appointment call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit redcrossblood.org.
