COLTON -- The next in the town’s Summer Music Series of Colton Riverside Performances features Northbound which has been performing in the North Country for years.

The performance will be held Wednesday, Aug. 2, from 6-8 p.m., at the Old Fire Station on Riverside Drive in the hamlet of Colton (rain or shine). This is the 4th of 6 performances planned by the town’s Tourism & Beautification Committee for this summer.

Northbound, which includes Michael Welch, Don Cannamela, Larry Baycura, Andy Van Duyne, Chip Lamson, and Tim Savage, performs a smorgasbord of well-known and loved pop, rock, and folk music from the past five decades.

Their music, spanning a wide variety of musical tastes, is influenced by popular singer-songwriters including James Taylor, Paul Simon, John Fogerty, and The Beatles.

Audience participants should bring their own chairs for seating.

Bathroom facilities located both inside and outside the Old Fire Station will be open to the public.

Volunteers will be on hand to help people with parking or who may need assistance otherwise.

Grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, drinks, and other refreshments will be available to purchase from the Colt’s Pride Booster Club at reasonable prices.

There is no admission fee to attend the performance. It is made possible in part with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the St. Lawrence County Arts Council.

Also, six businesses -- Catamount Lodge & Forest LLC, Hide Away Café, Hoffman Eells & Gray CPAs, Paula Youmell / Wise Woman Nurse, Raquette River Pub, S&L Electric -- are helping sponsor the music series this year.

Additionally, expenses are covered through product sales and the raffle of painted barn quilts.

On Aug. 2, a two-by-two foot barn quilt, valued at $125, featuring the Courthouse Steps quilt block pattern painted in greens and browns will be raffled.

The winning ticket will be announced at the end of the performance; and winners do not have to be present to win.

Until the performance the barn quilt is displayed in the Colton Hepburn Library where tickets can be purchased — 2 for $5 (and only 100 tickets are available).

More information about the performances and other summer activities is available on the town website, www.townofcolton.com, and on Facebook via the Town of Colton page. Hard copies of the summer schedule are available at the Colton Town Hall and in the Stone Valley Information Center located in the Colton Museum across the street.

Posters about summer music performances are displayed around town and in neighboring communities.

Scott Muller of the town’s Tourism & Beautification Committee also can be called about the performance and the entire summer series at 315-244-9956.
