In this workshop, children will experience the liveliness, fun, and challenge of West African drumming in this hands-on workshop, and gain an understanding of a unique music-culture.

Participants will learn Kpanlogo, a traditional style of music from southern Ghana. The students will learn rhythms, techniques, and organization of the music in a simple way, and will have the opportunity to play hand-carved hand drums, bells, and shakers, and also learn a song and dance steps.

They will also learn some important facts about Ghana and Africa.

Members of the Crane West African Ensemble at SUNY Potsdam will be available to demonstrate the music.

At the end of the session, an audio recording of the group will be made, which will be accessible on the NCCM website, so kids can relive the experience, and share with others.

The program will be run by Julie Hunter, Crane School of Music professor, and will cost $10 per participant.

Participants can sign up for the whole season of Children’s Museum programming for a 20 percent discount.

Register online through clear@potsdam.edu, or call 315-267-2167.

Walk-ins will be welcome if space is available.

Need-based discounts will be offered, contact us at info@northcountrychildrensmuseum.org.
