CANTON -- SUNY Canton is hosting the Special Olympics New York for North Country Region summer games on May 2.
A hundred and seventy athletes are expected to participate in track, field and basketball.
Fifty coaches and their volunteers have worked with the athletes to prepare.
More than 300 community and SUNY Canton student volunteers are expected to help out.
Opening ceremonies begin at 9:45 a.m. in the Roos House, with competitions starting immediately afterwards in the field house and ice rink. Basketball will be held at Dana gym.
