POTSDAM -- The public is invited to attend the fifth North Country Jr. Iron Chef competition, a project of the Health Initiative, Saturday, March 11, at A.A. Kingston Middle School. The event is free to attend and cooking will begin at 10:30 a.m.

This competition is a regional event that spans Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties. Twenty-four middle and high school teams will compete to develop healthy recipes, using a combination of local and USDA (commodity) foods that could be realistically prepared in a school cafeteria.

There will be event t-shirts for sale and activities to enjoy, but food and beverages will not be available to purchase.

North Country Jr. Iron Chef is supported by St. Lawrence Health System as the 2017 “Platinum Presenter” sponsor. Other sponsors include: Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center; Potsdam Food Co-op; Community Bank, N.A.; The View Restaurant at Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa; United Helpers Management Company; Bicknell Corporation; and Hurlbut Tent Rental.

Visit the event website at http://ncjrironchef.org/ for more information or contact the Health Initiative at (315) 261-4760.
