BRUSHTON – The North Country Grazing School will be held Saturday, March 4, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Scottie’s Diner, 1049 State Route 11.

This is an educational program to improve grazing practices for all pasture-based livestock including dairy, both conventional and organic. The North Country Regional Ag Team, a collaboration of Cornell University and the Extension Associations of the North Country, is sponsoring this event.

The guest speaker will be Dr. Sid Bosworth, University of Vermont extension professor, who will deliver a program on weed ecology and pasture management.

Other topics covered will be pasture management after a draught, considering cover crops, winter cereal grains and late season oats, and adding yield and quality to your pasture-based system.

The special topic for the Brushton meeting will be developing your water system supply and delivery.

Bob Zufall from Zufall Farms in Lisbon, grazer and dairyman, will share his experiences.

The following regional Extension specialists will also attend: Kitty O’Neil, Mike Hunter, Joe Lawrence, Betsy Hodge and Ron Kuck.

The cost of the event is $30 per person, $15 for additional people from the same farm. Lunch is included.

Payment is due the day of the event at the door.

Reservations are needed by Thursday, March 2.

Attendees can register on the Franklin County Extension website, http://franklin.cce.cornell.edu/, or with Diane DuMont at drd9@cornell.edu, or by calling the CCE Franklin office at 518-483-7403.

Participants can also register with Betsy Hodge at bmf9@cornell.edu.
