CANTON -- The next North Country Civil War Roundtable, Sunday, May 19 at 2 p.m. at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association 3 East Main St., will discuss the Battle of Vicksburg.
Both Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis felt that Vicksburg was the key to the Civil War.
General Ulysses S. Grant lay siege to the city for more than 40 days before the Confederate forces surrendered on July 4, 1863.
Local Civil War lecturers Stanley Maine and Robert Wells will discuss the battle at the roundtable.
