WINTHROP -- Stan Maine will speak on Edgar Crane and his letters home at the next North Country Civil War Round Table at the Stockholm History Center, 607 Route 11C, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30.
Edgar Crane (1841-1913) was a member of the 60th New York Infantry who returned to his native Stockholm after the war.
The letters Crane wrote to his family at home illustrate the perspective of an ordinary soldier through commentary on the government, military politics and personal concerns.
Maine is a resident of Pierrepont who serves as a trustee for the St. Lawrence County Historical Association and is chairman of the SLCHA Building Committee as well as the North Country Civil War Round Table.
Visitors who own items with Civil War provenance are encouraged to bring them to the event for a "show and tell" session before the talk.
A display on the Crane family will also be showcased at the History Center.
The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
