CANTON -- The next North Country Civil War Round Table will be held Sunday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association.
Rather than featuring an in-depth lecture on an aspect of the war, we invite visitors who own items with provenance to the Civil War period to bring them to the event for a “show and tell” session.
Local Civil War military expert Dixie Dave Ellis will be on hand to help identify artifacts brought by participants. Show-and-tell objects do not need to be military in nature: documents and stories are welcome.
The SLCHA Gift Shop is a great way to take home Civil War history with books like Gallantry in the Field: Potsdam and the Civil War and New York's North Country and the Civil War. SLCHA members receive a 10 percent discount on most items in the gift shop.
The St. Lawrence County Historical Association at the Silas Wright House is open Tuesday through Thursday, noon-4 p.m., Friday, noon-6 p.m., and Saturday, 10a.m.-4 p.m.
Admission to the museum is free; admission to the archives is free for members and children, $2.50 for college students, and $5 for the general public.
The St. Lawrence County Historical Association is located at 3 E. Main St., Canton. Parking is available in the back of the SLCHA, next to the museum’s main entrance.
For more information, or to become a member, call the SLCHA at 315-386-8133 or e-mail info@slcha.org.
Civil War Round Table programs are made possible in part by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
