MASSENA -- Melissa’s Closet will give away free prom dresses for the ninth year.
Distribution will be at the St. Lawrence Centre mall on April 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
They have over 1,000 dresses in all colors, lengths and sizes.
“We promise any girl in need of a dress will have one,” the Melissa’s Closet website says.
People who want to donate dresses can bring them to any of the Cornell’s Dry Cleaning locations in Massena to have them dry cleaned. They are at 54 Willow St. (315-769-6946), 90 Main St. (315-769-3879) and 141 Water St. (315-769-3531).
In addition to prom dresses, people can donate evening gowns, dress accessories, purses and hair clips.
Melissa’s Closet is named after Melissa Walsh, who died in 2007. Her family set up the free dress program in her memory to ensure all Northern New York girls have dresses for their proms, regardless of financial or family circumstances, their website says.
