MADRID -- The Madrid Dam Summer Music Series continues Aug. 10 two performances from 6 to 8 p.m. for an evening of children’s and family entrainment.

Nina Rivera will share her Brilliant Star Children’s program of songs, dance and entertainment.

During intermission there will be treats, games and more from the St. Lawrence County Dairy Princess. There will be refreshments, cheese, crackers and “special” milk punch.

The second performance will be The Friends and Family Band.

This band has many different members that add to the band diversity. They call on different members to meet the event and to bring their talents and personalities.

They haven't made a proper and name because they have the band group as a side job for fun and enjoyment.

For over 25 years and with ages of family and friends range from 30-60, they have had a great time entertaining audiences, an email from event organizers said.

Looking ahead to the Aug. 17 concert, Steelin’ Country is now on tap. Grass Transit was originally slated to perform that night.

The band is made up of several area musicians who play covers and original country tunes. Their covers include music by Johnny Cash, Ray Price, Connie smith and Merle Haggard.

Band members include Kirk Robinson on pedal steel guitar, Michelle Bresett on rhythm guitar and vocals, Terry Robinson on electric guitar, Alex Hammond on percussion and vocals, Josh Barkley on keyboard or bass guitar, and Dale Planty on rhythm guitar and vocals.

One of the goals of the band has been to spread the gospel of classic country music to younger generations.

“Michelle, as a local high school teacher, is pleased to have some of her recent students joining the band for summer performances, organizers said. “Terry and Kirk are father and son, and also grandfather and uncle to Alex, truly making this band a family affair.”
