POTSDAM -- From classic to contemporary, the tenth anniversary season of The Met: Live in HD will bring 10 productions from the Metropolitan opera to the movie screen in Potsdam again in 2015-16.

Sponsored in the North Country by SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music and J.S. Cinemas, the tenth season of the series features live transmissions from the Metropolitan opera stage beamed to silver screens in more than 2,000 movie theaters in 66 countries around the world.

The season will open this weekend, Oct. 3, with a screening of Verdi’s “Il Trovatore,” which has been called a return to opera’s golden age.

The Metropolitan Opera production of “Otello,” which will screen live on Oct. 17, will feature Crane School of Music alumnus Dimitri Pittas ’99, tenor, in the role of Cassio.

All performances will be screened at the Roxy Theater, 20 Main St.

Robotic cameras, strategically placed around and behind the stage capture live performance from several angles. Intermission features and English subtitles will help bring the stories to life.
