CANTON -- A brand new community event is in the works to spruce up the village one trash bag at a time.
A community clean-up day is scheduled for April 30 from 10 a.m. to noon with the theme “Canton: The County Seat, Let’s Keep it Neat.”
Village resident Susan R. Mende and other volunteers have organized the effort with the support of the Canton Village Board, and more volunteers are being recruited for the spring event.
“We think this is a useful way to promote civic pride,” Mende said. “We’re hoping for a nice day and a good turnout. Everyone is welcome.”
Participants are asked to meet in the village park to receive free plastic garbage bags, plastic gloves and street maps.
Trash will be returned to the park by noon where it will be collected by Casella Waste Services, Potsdam.
Debris will be collected from sidewalks, municipal parking lots, parks and playgrounds.
Organizers are hoping a wide range of folks attend, including families, civic groups, high school and college students.
