Naturalist Festival in Canton Saturday afternoon

CANTON -- Nature Up North and the St. Lawrence Sustainability Program are hosting the 2017 Naturalist Festival Saturday, Sept. 30, from 2-6 p.m. at the program's site on Route 68.

The public is invited to an afternoon of back-to-back naturalist walks presented by a naturalists and professors at St. Lawrence, Clarkson, and Cornell Cooperative Extension. Walks will range from 45 minutes to 1 hour and will focus on a range of topics, including mushroom identification, birds, amphibians, reptiles, and wild edible plants.

This event is free and open to the public, and all ages are welcome. The afternoon will also include the opportunity to tour the Sustainability Farm and to learn about opportunities to get involved with Nature Up North.

Naturalist walk schedule

2-2:45 p.m., Edible Wild Plants

3-3:45 p.m., Finding Fungi

4-4:45 p.m., Reptiles & Amphibians

5-5:45 p.m., Bird Walk, binoculars provided*

*limited binoculars available, please RSVP to reserve a pair.

All naturalist walks will take place at the St. Lawrence Sustainability Program Site, Route 68. From Canton, follow Route 68 south for approximately 4 miles. The site will be on the left, just after Cornell Cooperative Extension. Water will available on site. Hikers are advised to bring their own water bottles and snacks.
