Music, food, dancing and games in store at Hopkinton Summer Fest July 16 - 18
HOPKINTON – The Town of Hopkinton’s annual Summer Fest brings a variety of music, dancing, food, and games to the gazebo in the park and around town starting Friday night, July 16, through Sunday, July 18, capped off by fireworks that night.
It all starts with a teen dance at Town Hall from 7 to 10 p.m., for young people in grades 7 to 12. Music will be by DJ Mission. Parents must sign in, drop off, and pick up attendees.
Saturday is a full day, with a parade up Rt. 11B to County Route 49 starting at 10 a.m.
The music starts Saturday at noon with The River Mohawks, followed by The Drifters at 2:30, Anne Marie & Co. at 5, Kountry Rebels II at 7, and Double Axel plays for the block dance from 8 p.m. to midnight.
From noon on Saturday, lawn mower races will be held behind NuMed. S-Classes will race.
A ham dinner at Town Hall, to benefit the Holy Cross Church, starts at 5 p.m. Saturday, with takeouts starting at 4:30.
Hop”kid”ton Carnival 2010 has prizes, games, face painting, and free popcorn in the park for kids Saturday and Sunday, with a giant slide, games of skill and a scavenger hunt starting at noon Saturday and an Olympics featuring basketball, jump-rope, hula hoop, tug of war, sack race, water balloon and foot race contests starting at noon on Sunday.
There will be horseshoe and volleyball games in the park both days.
Sunday’s events begin with a pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Town hall, for the benefit of the Hopkinton-Ft. Jackson Fire Department, followed by the annual tractor pull behind NuMed’s building at 9 a.m. An ecumenical church service will begin at 10 a.m.
The Old Timers Band kicks off the music on Sunday at noon, with the Kickin Kountry Cloggers at 3 p.m. and Cresent Street Jam at 4:30 p.m.
DJ Wendy Crump has music at the firehouse from 7 to 9:45 p.m. Sunday, followed by the fireworks show behind NuMed near the fire station when it gets dark.
All events are free, except food. Refreshments will be available. Everyone is welcome to bring a lawn chair and just sit and relax or get up and move around. It all happens rain or shine.
